T. Mikey at the MoonFlowers Solo Exhibition Opening
Artist Statement
T. Mikey has been painting images that change color under UV light and glow in the dark for the past 25 years. What initially began as a painting experiment, his MoonFlowers series has evolved into 100’s of paintings, installations, products, and now a book. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the MoonFlowers series, the complete process, exhibition history, and portfolio has been compiled into a beautiful 218 page hardcover art book. This latest exhibition will highlight the latest new additions to the MoonFlowers series, as well as the official release of the 20th anniversary book titled “MoonFlowers 2005-2025: 20 years of painting in the dark”. Combining traditional and experimental art making techniques, the artist bridges digital art with the human hand, while blending painting and light to create an awe inspiring multifaceted visual presentation. MoonFlowers explores the seen and unseen mysteries of his unique approach to abstract bioluminescent floral imagery that envelopes the viewer in a familiar yet otherworldly experience.
Biography
T. Mikey (b. 1977), a New England native, balances diverse talents as an artist, writer, designer, muralist, instructor, patented inventor, and web/mobile application developer. A Rhode Island School of Design graduate and instructor, he earned the 2015 “Teacher of Excellence” award, as voted by students and administration. A contributing writer to ARTisSpectrum Magazine and has pioneered in experimental multimedia painting techniques over the past three decades. His distinctive works have been collected and displayed across private, public, corporate, and educational institutions. Combining creative vision with technical expertise to bridge the worlds of fine art and digital innovation, His professional life is shared between inventive art exhibitions and working in the technology sector, designing and developing web applications for Fortune 100 companies.
